Yesterday I went fishing like usual and honestly thought I had gotten incredibly lucky.

After almost an hour waiting near the riverbank, I suddenly felt a huge pull on the line. The fight lasted several minutes before I finally pulled up one of the strangest fish I’d ever caught.

Its body looked almost unreal:

• giant uneven scales,
• dark golden patterns,
• thick lips,
• and a shape that looked more like something from an old legend than a normal river fish.

I brought it home feeling proud, already imagining dinner.

But the moment my older sister saw it, her expression changed immediately.

She told me:

“Put it back. Don’t eat that fish.”

At first I thought she was joking.

Then she explained that fish with unusual scale patterns like this are often considered extremely rare by experienced fishermen. Some people even believe certain carp with unique markings are “lucky fish” or old river fish that shouldn’t be eaten casually.

She also warned me that large wild fish from unknown waters can sometimes:

• carry parasites,
• absorb pollutants,
• or have a muddy smell and poor meat quality depending on where they live.

After hearing all that, I honestly started hesitating.

The weird part is that the more I looked at the fish, the stranger it seemed. Its scales almost formed maze-like patterns across its body, making it look completely different from ordinary carp.

In the end…
I actually released it back into the water.

And strangely enough, even though I lost a meal, it still felt like the right decision
